FAQ – Recently introduced changes to competitions

Over the past month, numerous changes have been introduced as we respond to the challenges presented by COVID-19.  This has prompted Members to query why some changes have been made or what to do in certain situations.

Examples include:

  • Why is the score on the “Results Sheet” different from the score I recorded on my card?
  • Why are 9 hole competitions (Tuesday mornings) now played before the 18 hole competition?
  • When are time sheets being released?
  • My playing partner cancelled at late notice. Can I still play in the competition if I play by myself?
  • Am I allowed to drink BYO beers in the car park or near the Pro Shop after my round?

COVID-19 UPDATE - 15 APRIL 2020

2020 AGM UPDATE – meeting postponed

Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) is an extremely important event for our Club each year.

It allows us to reflect on the year that has been, hear about the Club’s future and challenges as well as providing a great opportunity to enjoy the camaraderie of our fellow Members.

At this year’s AGM, amongst other matters, we will:

  • celebrate the leadership provided to our Club by outgoing President Margaret Koeninger
  • welcome incoming President Mark Ohlsson
  • hear the latest update regarding the Western Harbour Tunnel project and its impact on our Club and course

However, the COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing obligations mean we cannot hold a traditional AGM in our Clubhouse.

We were due to hold our AGM this Sunday 19 April 2020 however we have no choice but to postpone the meeting. At this stage, no new time or date has been set.

As we cannot meet as a group in person, we are exploring different ways to conduct the meeting so as to allow as many Members as possible to attend and participate.  One option includes conducting the meeting via Zoom (zoom.us) and further guidance will be provided if this option is chosen.

Our Auditors, William Buck, have also been delayed in finalising their audit of our Financial Statements.  Our audit was almost complete in mid-March when the first social distancing obligations such as 1 person per 4 square metres was introduced.  This required a re-work of our cash flow forecasts and financial budgets for 2020.  Subsequent revisions of these forecasts and budgets were needed when our Clubhouse was shutdown (March 23), when our Course was shutdown (March 30), when our Course re-opened (April 1) as well as taking into account the announcement of various Federal and State Government stimulus packages.

We anticipate the finalisation of our audit should occur any day now and we will share a copy of the Financial Statements with you as soon as possible once they are signed.

In relation to the deferral of our AGM, ASIC (Australian Securities and Investment Commission) recognises that COVID-19 may temporarily impact an organisations ability to hold an AGM.  ASIC has advised that no action will be taken if AGMs are postponed until the end of July 2020.  ASIC cautions entities against holding an AGM while there are restrictions on large gatherings, unless the entity can provide Members as a whole with a reasonable opportunity to participate in the meeting.

Once a new time and date is set for our AGM, we will notify you:

  • the new time and date
  • how to attend the meeting (particularly if it requires attending the meeting via a conference call or similar technology)
  • how to obtain and view relevant documents (Agenda, prior year minutes, copies of reports, etc)
  • how to collect and return Proxy forms outlining your voting preferences

In the interim and until the AGM is held, our current Board will continue to meet on a monthly basis using appropriate technology so that all Directors have the opportunity to attend and participate in the running of our Club.

COVID-19 UPDATE - 6 APRIL 2020

GOLFNSW has provided the following COVID-19 update this morning

It helps to clarify many queries about what our Club can/can’t do in the current COVID-19 climate

As the FAQ highlights, public perception is the hardest thing for our Club to manage – for example, where a cart is shared by two people from the same family household or where there is a group of three on the course (ie mum, son 10yo, daughter 8yo)

At Cammeray Golf Club, we are observing the following (subject to change without notice):

  • shared use of carts by family members living in same household – YES
  • groups greater than 2 people (ie 2 golfers and one spectator or 3 golfers) – NO unless all persons in that group are family members living in the same household
  •  more than two family members living together playing in the same group – YES but all persons in that group must be family members living in the same household such as mum, son 10yo and daughter 8yo.

At all times, the health and safety of all customers and staff at Cammeray Golf Club is of utmost concern

If you are fit and healthy, we welcome you to play a round of golf

The main change relates to the Sunday competition – it is now a 9 hole competition – and all competitions will be open to mixed fields.

9 hole mixed competitions will be held across each day of the week.  This should allow as many Members as possible to enjoy a game of golf, be handicapped and perhaps win a ball if you play well.

18 hole mixed competitions will be offered on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday.  6 day Members can participate in Saturday competitions however priority will be given to 7 day Members.

A summary of the changes is listed below:

  • Individuals who are not in a group of 2 cannot participate in the competition but may play a social round at that time

COVID-19 UPDATE - 1 APRIL 2020

FANTASTIC NEWS – WE ARE OPEN AGAIN!

It has been an eventful 48 hours.

First, the sad news on Monday when GolfNSW recommended all courses to close.

Then this morning we were informed that the Office of Sport – NSW Government had reconsidered their decision and now allows courses to re-open.  It has been recognised golf is a valid way for people to go outside and exercise.

Our course re-opened earlier this morning and we look forward to seeing you on the course again soon if you are fit and healthy.

Our ability to allow you to play golf is subject to it being played in line with Public Health Orders relating to public gathering limits, social distancing and the elderly.

This means:

  • groups are limited to 2 players
  • social distancing of 1.5m must be adhered to at all times
  • you should arrive 15 minutes prior to your tee time
  • you should depart as soon as practicable once finished playing
  • you should not congregate in the car park, near the first tee or outside the Proshop
  • if you are over 70, the strong advice from Government is to stay at home
  • if you are over 60 and have existing health conditions or comorbidities, the strong advice from Government is to stay at home

Previously introduced safety measures continue to apply, including:

  • one person per cart
  • putting with the flagstick in the hole
  • the use of a plastic ring inside the cup to limit the depth the ball falls into the cup
  • not shaking hands before or after your round
  • scoring your own card is advised – no need to swap or counter sign cards
  • use of sand buckets is optional

COMPETITIONS

On Monday, all previously listed tee bookings and competition sheets were deleted on the basis our course had been closed for the foreseeable future.

Going forward, a decision has been made to run competitions every day of the week. This reflects that field sizes may be reduced due to over 70s choosing not to play, the limitation of 2 players per group and the potential that Members are looking for exercise on Monday through Friday.

We understand that these times are different to what has previously been offered, may result in some players missing out and the times may not suit everyone. We appreciate your feedback and, if possible, will revise/adjust as appropriate.

9 hole competitions:

  • Monday – 9am to 10am
  • Thursday – 9am to 10am
  • Friday – 8.30am to 9.30am
  • Sunday – 9am to 10am
  • An aggregated Tuesday/Wednesday/Saturday field played during social hours

18 hole competitions

  • Tuesday – 9am to 10.30am
  • Wednesday – 9am to 10.30am
  • Saturday – 7.30am to 9am and 11am to 12.30pm*

(* will change once daylight savings ends)

All competitions have been set up as Open/Mixed fields and will be played as individual events only (stroke/stableford/par).

You can play in the 9 hole competition outside of these time should you choose

COVID-19 UPDATE - 31 MARCH 2020

GolfNSW has provided a further update to yesterday’s announcement that golf courses should close as at midnight last night.

The status of golf has been changed to a ‘non-essential’ activity, effective midnight on 30 March 2020.

Other sports also considered non-essential include:
  • all team sporting activities
  • motorsport activities
  • golf (both social and competition)
  • tennis (both social and competition)
  • various group activities

As such, the playing of golf (social, competition, practice or tuition) is contrary to ‘Stay at Home’ NSW Public Health Orders.

Breach of orders made under the Public Health Act 2010 is a criminal offence and attracts heavy penalties of up to $11,000 for individuals and $55,000 for corporations.

Further detail can be read below in the Statement from the Office of Sport – NSW Government

COVID-19 UPDATE - 30 MARCH 2020

CAMMERAY GOLF COURSE CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

All golf courses across Australia, including Cammeray Golf Club, to close at midnight tonight, 30 March 2020, until further notice.

Last night, Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced that outdoor gatherings should be limited to two persons or fewer.  Further, he said that all Australians should stay at home except for:

  • shopping for essentials
  • medical purposes
  • exercise
  • work and education, if you cannot work or learn remotely
Through the course of today, GolfNSW sought further guidance from the NSW State Government and NSW Office of Sport however the recommendation is that all golf courses in NSW close at midnight until further notice. Although golf is a form of exercise, golf does not fall within the definition based on public government statements in the last 24 hours.

Going forward, our green staff will be working on a skeleton staffing level.  Over the next 24 hours, all flags, bins, signs, cups, etc will be removed from our course.  Our intention is to ensure that the course is maintained to a sufficient standard such that we can readily resume playing golf as and when circumstances permit.

During the period our course is closed, should you see unwanted or undesirable behaviour on our golf course (bearing in mind the Government regulations that have been imposed about staying at home), we ask that you report what you have seen to the police.

MEMBERS AND THE PUBLIC ARE NOT PERMITTED TO PLAY GOLF ON OUR COURSE DURING THE CLOSURE

COVID-19 UPDATE - 25 MARCH 2020

Consistent with earlier updates, we continue to have modified playing conditions to help ensure the health and safety of all players and our staff.

Modifications include:

  • One person per golf cart
  • Adhering to the 4 square metre distancing rules as a minimum
  • All bunkers are GUR and rakes have been removed
  • Plastic inserts are in the cups to make ball retrieval easier
  • Flagsticks are to remain in the hole while putting
  • Avoid shaking hands before and after your round
  • All payments are to be made using EFTPOS

Only staff members are allowed in our Proshop. Payments are to be made through the window overlooking the first tee block.

As foreshadowed in a circular distributed yesterday, ClubsNSW is seeking further clarification from the Government on this matter.  This includes whether golf and bowls players may purchase food and beverages inside the clubhouse or proshop to consume on the course or green.

ClubsNSW will circulate this additional information in due course.

Golf and bowls clubs cannot allow people to assemble or meet in the clubhouse or pro shop.

COVID-19 UPDATE - 18 MARCH 2020

Following the  Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s address to the country this morning, Cammeray Golf Club will continue to operate “business as usual” however with the introduction of further precautionary measures to minimise the risk of COVID-19 in our Club.

The Federal Government has banned non-essential indoor gatherings of more than 100 people and outdoor gatherings of 500 people.

Our golf course, and golf in general, provides a way for people to enjoy an outdoor activity whilst still maintaining social distancing.  The course capacity is around 60 people at any point in time so we are well within the 500 person limit.

Our Clubhouse has 120 indoor seats and our generous balcony has 50 seats.  We have removed 70 indoor seats and 10 outdoor seats and placed them in storage to ensure that staff plus patron numbers within our Clubhouse do not exceed the 100 person limit.

If you are fit and healthy, we welcome you to play a round of golf or enjoy a post-round drink in our Clubhouse.

If you have a cold, runny nose or other illness, we respectfully request that you do not play golf or enter our Clubhouse.

Other golf course changes include:

  • Carts are strictly one person per cart. An exception to this rule only applies where both people are from the same household – ie spouses or parent and child
  • Golfers are encouraged to putt with the flagstick in the hole – if the flag is removed, we encourage using a gloved hand
  • Handshakes before and after the round are not recommended
  • Do not feel obliged to enter the Clubhouse for a post-round drink with playing partners
  • All payments, particularly competition fees, are requested to be made using EFTPOS
  • Club storage key to be handled by Proshop staff only
  • Social distancing of 1.5m should be encouraged on tees and greens
  • Caution should be exercised when using hire equipment – whilst we regularly clean these items, we recommend you wear a glove on both hands while using this equipment

Other Clubhouse changes include:

  • Only enter the Clubhouse if you feel comfortable doing so
  • Subject to weather conditions, entrance/exit doors will be kept open all day to minimise contact with door handles
  • Score entry kiosk (competition scores) is now out of use – please hand card to Admin or Proshop for entry
  • An increased amount of cleansing and disinfecting will occur throughout the day to ensure high-touch points are kept clean
  • All payments are requested to be made using your House Account or EFTPOS
  • Disposable cups will be made available for use with the water machine
  • Drinking straws and bowls/baskets for chips will be removed
  •  Trays are available to carry drinks back to your table

We recognise that these changes may cause inconvenience however the health and safety of all patrons and staff is our primary concern.

We anticipate further changes will be made to our daily operations as this is a rapidly changing environment.

  • Wash your hands frequently with an alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
  • Maintain social distancing – at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.
  • Practice respiratory hygiene – this means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze.  Then dispose of the issues tissue immediately.
  • If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early and call the practice in advance.
  • Stay informed on the latest developments about COVID-19.  Follow advice given by your healthcare provider and the NSW Health Department to protect yourself and others from COVID-19.
